Postdoc in Quantum Magnonics, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, USA

Dr. Abdelghani Laraoui at University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) is hiring a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join his group immediately for the quantum magnonics project. This is a highly multidisciplinary project that combines techniques from quantum sensing, magnonics, ferromagnetic resonance spectroscopy, quantum optics, and nanofabrication. We seek to study the magnetic coupling and decoherence mechanisms in a hybrid quantum system composed of diamond nitrogen vacancy (NV) spin qubits coupled via spin waves as quantum buses in magnetic waveguides (nanowires, cavities, etc.). The magnetic materials we are studying include forro/ferrimagnetic films with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (PMA) such as CoFeB and TmIG, YIG/YSGG with ultralow damping at low temperatures, and two-dimensional magnetic materials (CrTe2, CrCl3, etc.).

This position is funded by NSF, and it is for one year, renewable up two times based on satisfactory progress and available funds. A PhD in Physics, Materials Engineering, or a related field is required. Experience in optical spectroscopy/microscopy, ferromagnetic resonance spectroscopy, cryogenics, and/or nanofabrication (EBL, DWL) is highly recommended. Strong background in programming (LabView, Python, etc.) is very desired. Experience in magnetometry or quantum optics is also helpful. Compensation is commensurate with experience. Interested candidates, please email the following application materials to Dr. Laraoui at alaraoui2@unl.edu:

1.     Cover letter describing research background, skills, interests, and availability.

2.      A detailed CV with complete publication record, list of accomplishments and technical/analytical skills.

3.      Contact information for at least 3 references (including PhD supervisor).

More information about Dr. Laraoui’s research group can be found here: https://engineering.unl.edu/laraoui

A very competitive salary (minimum is $61,000 /year for PhD holders with 0 year of experience) with health-insurance benefits and paid leave are offered.

UNL is an equal opportunity employer.
