Postdoctoral Research Associates at ORNL; Optical and Quantum Optical Probes of Magnetic, Superconducting, and Topological Materials
Two Postdoctoral Research Associate positions are currently available in the Quantum Heterostructures Group at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Successful applicants should have a PhD in physics, materials science, or a closely related science discipline awarded within the past 5 years and experience with optical and/or electronic probes of quantum systems in cryogenic environments. Experience with quantum photonic devices or quantum optical sensing is preferred but not required. Measurements will be performed in cryostats operated from 3.5-300 K and in a dilution refrigerator with an integrated optical microscope.
In the first position, as part of ORNL’s Quantum Science Center, the successful candidate will utilize spin defects in 2D materials to probe magnetic phase transitions and spin fluctuations in magnetic topological materials. Further details, including details regarding the application process, are available here.
In the second position, the successful candidate will use quantum optical probes together with dc and rf transport measurements of patterned devices in order to better understand the effect of disorder on putative topological superconductors. Further details, including details regarding the application process, are available here.
