PhD Position on Chiral Spintronics

One PhD position will be available at the Institute of Materials Science of Barcelona (ICMAB-CSIC) in the recently funded M.ERA-NET consortium project MUST: Materials for Ultraefficient chiral SpinTronics.

The project will focus on the development of ferrimagnetic nitride and oxide thin films exhibiting chiral interfacial interactions. Based on these materials, we will then fabricate spintronic devices operating with domain walls, skyrmions, and spin waves for magnetic data applications. The outcome is expected to offer more sustainable and energy efficient solutions to the current CMOS and prospective post-CMOS memory and logic technologies.

The successful candidate preferentially has prior experience in the fabrication of magnetic thin films by magnetron sputtering. Knowledge of electrical and optical characterization of magnetic materials, device fabrication in cleanroom facilities and any other relevant spintronic-related research experience will be valued.

How to apply:

Interested candidates should send their CV (only pdf files), a short statement of purpose, and names of two referees to Can Onur Avci (cavci@icmab.es). Applications will be evaluated as received.

Conditions:

The applicant must hold (or expect to obtain by July 31st, 2023) a MSc. degree in Physics, Materials Science, or related disciplines.

Deadline for application: June 30th, 2023

Start date: October 1st, 2023

Contract duration: 36 months

Salary: ~23 k€ (yearly, gross)
