Postdoctoral positions at the University of California, Santa Barbara in the area of applied mathematics and computational materials

The Department of Mathematics at University of California, Santa Barbara invites applications for two postdoctoral positions broadly in the area of applied mathematics and computational materials, to work under the supervision of Prof. Carlos Garcia Cervera (cgarcia@math.ucsb.edu, http://web.math.ucsb.edu/~cgarcia).

Candidates are expected to have expertise in at least one of the following areas: analysis of electronic structure models, multiscale modeling, tensor networks, or quantum physics.

Candidates with physics, chemistry, or materials science backgrounds who have experience in terms of method development are also welcome. The positions permit the teaching of two under/graduate courses during the academic year.

Applications are invited for the following research topics:

1. Spin systems: Relativistic and non-relativistic theory, relaxation mechanisms, spin Seebeck effect, ...

2. Quantum magnetism, with particular interest in 2D systems.

3. Study of defects and quantum embedding.
