Post-doc position on “MODELLING OF 2D MAGNETS” at Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche, Italy
One Post-doc position (1+1 year) focused on “MODELLING OF 2D MAGNETS” is available in the group of Dr. Silvia Picozzi (Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche, Institute CNR-SPIN Chieti, Italy).
Topic: The activity will centre on the modelling of multifunctional materials towards the 2D limit. Our interests will mostly focus on 2D magnets, but also on few layers ferroelectrics, multiferroics and Rashba materials. First-principles simulations within density functional theory (DFT) will be performed, aimed at fundamental understanding of microscopic mechanisms and materials optimization for applications. Whenever needed, symmetry analysis and model-Hamiltonian studies will be carried out, as complementary approaches to the main investigation tool, i.e. DFT.
Salary: 1.700-2.000 Euros/month (net), depending on the candidate experience
Duration: 1 year, renewable for an additional year depending on the first year research outcome.
Start: First trimester of 2022
Location: the activity will be carried out at Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche CNR-SPIN @ Chieti (Italy)
Required Expertise: A PhD in Physics or closely related disciplines is needed (the official PhD certificate must be owned before the end of 2021). Extensive experience in first-principles simulations is mandatory; previous research activity in magnetism, ferroelectricity or correlated materials is welcome.
Collaborations and Funding: The research activity will partly be carried out within the “Nanoscience Foundries & Fine Analysis” (NFFA) project (please visit https://www.trieste.nffa.eu/ for further info) in collaboration with researchers at the Elettra Synchrotron (Trieste, IT), carrying out state-of-the-art experimental characterizations, such as Angle-Resolved Photo-Emission Spectroscopy, X-ray Absorption and Magnetic Circular Dichroism.
Contacts: please contact Dr. Silvia Picozzi via email at silvia.picozzi at spin.cnr.it by sending your CV and a list of publications. Reference letters are welcome. Use as e-mail subject: “Modeling of 2D Magnets: NFFA Postdoc Application”
