Postdoctoral Opportunity in Magneto-Optical Spectroscopy of 2D Heterostructures

Position: Postdoctoral Fellow
Location: George Mason University, Fairfax, VA

Salary: $65,000 per year

Duration: Up to 3 years

Opportunity

A postdoctoral researcher position is immediately available in Dr. Patrick Vora’s laboratory at George Mason University. The Vora Laboratory studies two-dimensional (2D) materials and quantum materials using low-temperature optical spectroscopy. The lab is presently in an expansion phase, exploring new types of van der Waals heterostructures hosting proximity effects and developing a magneto-optical spectroscopy system. The successful candidate is expected to make key contributions in both areas: fabricating van der Waals heterostructures from correlated 2D materials and constructing magneto- Raman, Brillouin, and photoluminescence microscopy experiments. The postdoc will have the opportunity to spend a significant amount of time using the Quantum Material Press at Brookhaven National Laboratory, a US Department of Energy national laboratory. The postdoc will be provided the opportunity to mentor undergraduate and graduate students, participate in outreach activities, and gain grant writing

experience. Individuals from minoritized and/or underrepresented populations are particularly encouraged to apply.

Desired Qualifications

• PhD in condensed matter physics or related field

• Proficiency with the design and construction of optical experiments

• Expertise in Raman and photoluminescence spectroscopy

• Experience with the assembly of van der Waals heterostructures

• Excellent oral and written communication skills

• Familiarity with LabView and Python programming languages
