Sr. Engineer - HAMR Writer Characterization at Seagate Technology

About our group:
The Characterization and Analytics Group (CAG) is responsible for characterization of advanced recording head technologies for Seagate’s HDD products. The HAMR DVL CAG team focuses on performance and reliability characterization of the writer and near-field transducer device to support Seagate’s new Heat Assisted Magnetic Recording (HAMR) technology.
About the role - you will:
Analyze performance and reliability data to provide in-depth analysis of the advantages and drawbacks of new head technologies
Develop new electrical test methods and metrics to better characterize writer/NFT designs and failure modes
Collaborate with design groups on test validation and DOE plans to assess new design concepts
Perform electrical failure analysis testing to determine root cause of problematic heads
About you:
Ph.D. in an engineering or scientific discipline with 0-5 years of experience (M.S. may be considered with more experience)
Knowledge of engineering data analysis (inferential statistics, DOE’s, regression, time-based series, etc.)
Experience in coding and using electrical test equipment/systems to conduct lab experiments
Knowledge of statistical software (JMP, Minitab, Python, R), database query (SQL, Hadoop) and/or machine learning
Knowledge of magnetic recording, magnetic or optical devices. Familiarity with wafer processes, material/surface science and material analysis (electron microscopy, AFM) is a plus.
